Australia’s best swimmers will be on show at the Australian Championships to be held at SOPAC from 1st – 8th April, as will 22 very competitive Sydney Uni swimmers who tend to make an impression on the leading athletes and their coaches Bobby Folan and Vanessa Smith. Sydney Uni will be headed by veteran Jono Newton, Australian Champion Matthew Abood, Emma Gray, Sam McConnell, Meagan Ramsay, Stephen Parkes, Andrew Abood, Gordon Willis, Alistaire Pickles, David Wise, Tim Halliday, Dylan Curtis, Kate Johnson, Gemma Johnson, Tom Heal, Jessica Cerni, Matt Jaukovic, James Etter, Christine Kidd, Melanie Houghton and Paige Burland. At age 12, Paige is Sydney Uni’s youngest ever competitor at these championships. Newcomer to the club, Multi-Class Swimmer Sarah Hilt, will also compete in the S4 classification. These Championships are the selection trials for the FINA World Championship teams, World University Games and the Para Pan Pacific Championships. Coverage of the Commonwealth Games Trials will be televised on One HD. Coverage is from 6.30pm each evening showing highlights from the heats during the day and followed by live coverage of the finals/evening session from 7.30pm. A cheer squad of 50 swim club members and their families are attending the finals session on Friday 1st April. Look for the madly cheering group whenever a Sydney Uni swimmer is on |
